Upgrade from MicroStrategy 8 to 9?

Interesting how there been a 35% increase in MicroStrategy related jobs since Jan 08 through 2009.  The sharpest growth seem to have happened after the market crashed.  I’m not sure how reliable this data is because it seems quite contrary to what you would assume and it doesn’t align with what I have observed.

QlikView from a MicroStrategy Consultant’s Perspective

I went to QlikView (QV) training last week and I am sure some people might be wondering how it stacks up against MicroStrategy just as I was curious. Well, for starters I should say I am impressed with its presentation layer (a.k.a the reporting layer). MicroStrategy CFO Resigns Layoffs to Follow

Anonymous sources indicate the shutdown of the San Diego office which was primarily responsible for the MicroSoft Office integration plugins.  Additional layoffs on the sales side is expected.  I guess this is no big surprise given the current economic conditions and taking into account the consecutive quarters of earnings decline. QlikTech Gaining Ground Riding Departmental and Workgroup BI Wave

With over 10,000 customers this Swedish firm is quickly making its way up the Gartner Magic Quadrant.  By plying the underserved departmental niche they are capturing the hearts and minds of business users.  QlikTech received the highest score when asked weather the vendor is viewed as being successful in the organization.  Traditional vendors like MicroStrategy should be concerned with the passion QlikView customers have shown.  Passionate customers evangelize to their peers and soon you may end up seeing an excel like effect. MicroStrategy World 2009 Wrap Up

MicroStrategy 9 Cool New Features

Here’s a short list of some very interesting features announced at World:

  1. In-Memory ROLAP
  2. Departmental and workgroup oriented BI
  3. Custom derived elements driven by ajax (you can basically build a consolidation from web by highlighting rows and right mouse clicking).
  4. Extreme Ajax: The control panels are now mostly implemented with clientside javascript which gives everything a lighter look and feel as well as faster performance.
  5. Ability to fully customize graph reports from web.
  6. Drill anywhere from page by and graph reports
  7. Way better looking prompt layout and ability to create prompts and filters from web.
  8. Dashboard templating.
  9. Detailed object management with journaling.  Better SOX support.
  10. Ability to synch independently developed metadatas into a single metadata.
